WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO:

  • Every year, approximately 25 million American adults will experience at least one major depressive episode.  Yet over 70% of those who are suffering receive no treatment -- with cost and accessibility being major barriers to care.
  •
  • Philadelphia is being hit especially hard. As the city with the highest rate of deep poverty in the nation, untreated depression is wreaking havoc on individuals, families, and our communities.

  • Untreated depression is the leading cause of suicide; and another American dies by suicide every 12.4 minutes.

  • Major Depressive Disorder is the leading cause of disability in the U.S., with depression’s annual toll on U.S. businesses amounting to about $80 billion per year.
